Agra University

Agra University a.k.a. Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University is the institution established during the British rule in India. Earlier on 1st July 1927 A.D, the foundation of the university was laid in the city. Later on in 1996 it was renamed to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University.

Faculties

Agra University has many faculties for better education and knowledge. A variety of educational areas give a good chance for the students to choose the subjects of their choice. The students can thus make a better future in various fields.

Library


Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University in Agra has a special building for the library with standards books in it. This Central library is in the premises of the Paliwal Campus. Apart from this, the university has separate libraries for each department and institutions. All these sections of the libraries have latest books and journals for providing better source of knowledge to the students as well as the lecturers.

The four storey building of the central library in the university campus has the following collections:

  • approximately 1,80,000 books
  • 11,750 doctoral dissertations
  • 150 subscribed journals
  • 120 journals received in exchange
  • Special collections from donors
  • Bag chi Collection
  • Brij Collection
  • Mahajan Collection
  • Srivastava Collection
  • Commission Revenue Record since late Mughal period


Affiliated institutions

Initially, the university had extended jurisdiction over United Provinces of Agra, Central India and Rajputana. In all there were 14 affiliated colleges and 2530 students. 1475 students from this belonged to United Provinces.

Many institutions in Agra and in the nearby areas have education care taken under the Agra University after it is renamed as Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University. Areas like Agra Division, Aligarh, Mainpuri, Hathras, Firozabad, Etah and Mathura are under this university for educational needs.

The oldest medical college of Agra and India, Sarojini Naidu Medical College, is also affiliated to this university. Currently, the university has around 200 affiliated colleges and 15 residential Institutes spread out in residential campus of Paliwal Park, Khandari Campus, Civil Lines Campus and Chhaleshar Campus. Colleges of Homeopathy in Uttar Pradesh are also affiliated under this university.

Chairs


Chairs have been established in the university for the studies and preservation of various faculties. These also include valuable work of cultivation of various cultures of India.
 

  • Sur Peeth: This chair is created for the study of Brij Languages, Brij Culture and Brij Folk Arts. This has helped in the preservation and cultivation of Brij Culture in the new generation.
  • Centre for Gandhian Studies: In the modern violent world, the education of the in-depth study of the Gandhian Philosophy is very important. Based on this, the education on non-violence is also included in the chairs in the university.
  • Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair: This chair provides studies in various fields of faculty of law such as constitutional law and contemporary social issues, human rights, labor laws and International laws.
