Humayun Humayun ruled over Agra from 1530 A.D to 1556 A.D Birth name: Nasiruddin Humayun Family name: Mughal Title: Al-Sultan al-'Azam wal Khaqan al-Mukarram, Jam-i-Sultanat-i-haqiqi wa Majazi, Sayyid al-Salatin, Abu'l Muzaffar Nasir ud-din Muhammad Humayun Padshah Ghazi, Zillu'llah Birth: March 17, 1508 Place of birth: Kabul (Afghanistan) Death: March 4, 1556 Place of death: Delhi Burial: Humayun's Tomb (Delhi) Humayun became the heir apparent after the death of his father Babur and ascended the throne at Agra in 1530 A.D. Rule over AgraWhen Humayun ascended the throne at Agra he was inexperienced at that time. He administered the empire with his capabilities. However, he was defeated by Sur dynasty. Sher Shah Suri, the famous Afghan ruler, concentrated his power and attacked Humayun in 1539 A.D. Humayun was forced to leave the country and then he reached Kabul, Afghanistan. During his 15 years of reign in India he was married to Hamida Bano Begum who later on gave birth to Akbar. Humayun recaptured the throne at Agra from the Afghans with the help of the ruler at Kabul. The Afghans were ruling India from Sirhind, so Humayun, with the help of the king of Kabul, attacked the Afghans in 1555 A.D and defeated then at Sirhind and recaptured his empire including the Agra city. After a short span after that he died at Agra and was buried in Delhi. Buildings and gardens built by HumayunThere are a very few buildings known to be built by Humayun. Jamali Kamali Masjid (Mosque) at Delhi Last days of Humayun’s LifeAfter recapturing the throne of Agra and Delhi, Humayun died after 6 months He was climbing the stairs of his library as he was fond of reading books. He slipped badly and died in 1556 A.D in Delhi. He was 47 years old at the time of death. His tomb was later on built by his son Akbar the great in Delhi which has a good deal of artistic work on it.
